About "The Open PPC Project"
This search engine has 3 stated goals.
- Do "DMOZ" right
Rather than rely on an army of volunteers that will "hopefully" take care of their assigned or chosen categories, The Open PPC Project makes its editors a true part of the team. Our editors don't simply moderate or watch over a category, they own it. As owners, they are entitled to a share of the revenue generated by their category. They're also entitled to fully brand and private label their category. In fact, we wholeheartedly encourage it. In our view, each category is its own separate search engine, and should be treated as such.
We look for editors that have a vested interest or in depth knowledge of their chosen/assigned category. For example, the editor of our wines category actually owns and runs a winery. Who better to keep the category fresh, and to market it, and its advertisers than someone intimately involved in the business ?? Unlike DMOZ, we want to put our editors in business and make them money. We dont' expect them to give of their time, and then gripe when nothing gets done and the engine goes stale ....
- Teach the folks at overture.com a big lesson.
Rather than employ the old "Throw as much mud against the wall and hope something sticks" approach that all of the "major" PPCs are using, The Open PPC will deliver more, higher quality visitors to its advertisers. We will place advertisers listings within our distribution network on partner sites that meet the advertiser's criteria for suitability and compatibility with their industry, rather than simply seek out partners that can drive an immense amount of clicks regardless of quality.
Our goal is to prove that a focused, topic centric PPC, managed by an individual or company that knows the niche from the inside, will outperform the traditional general interest PPC that has, as its sole goal, to drain the accounts of its advertisers as quickly as possible.
- Set new standards for the rest of the PPC World
We will provide advertisers with the most advanced and productive bidding system and toolset possible. Our systems will and are designed with advertiser ease of use, as their primary goal. The system will do and act, wherever possible, to decrease the dollars spent by the advertiser. Gapless bidding, proxy bidding, and other cents-shaving systems are implemented to assist the advertiser, as well as to save real money.
We will provide our partners with the easiest to implement data retrieval systems in the PPC Industry. Period. Our partners will have the simplest (and well documented) set of API's and code to draw from to make implementation and integration of our data easy and painless. We want our partners to be promoters for us, not programmers.
Additionally and finally, we will adopt, and publish a set of standards and guidelines by which we will operate. The standards will include fraud protection measures, data and XML formatting and distribution policies and structures. It is our hope that our published standards will be adopted as baseline standards and benchmarks by the PPC industry.
